Staff Profile - Kuyler Lang

Meet the teachers and staff at Rogers Adventist School! Every month we feature a fabulous staff member and ask them 10 important questions. Kuyler Lang teaches 1st and 2nd grade at RAS.

Question 1: How long have you been a teacher?

15 years

Question 2: How long have you been teaching at Rogers?

13 years

Question 3: Who are some important people in your life?

My wife Christie, my girls Charlotte and Aileen, my dear friends. Also I’m a fan of the guy that sells me board games at the local game store.

Question 4: What inspired you to be a teacher?

I think it came from having the same wonderful teacher (a guy named Bill Hager) for 8 years of grade school and from learning beside children of many ages for all those years. I decided I could enjoy that setting for the rest of my life.

Question 5: Have you ever thought about a different career? If so what?

Oh yeah! Artist. It just might steal me away. But it would take a lot of motivation on my part so probably no danger of it happening.

Question 6: What is the best part about your job?

love the variety, the creative control (are those oxymorons?), the incredible maturation that happens in primary grades, the amazing attitudes of young kids. That’s more than one part isn’t it?

Question 7: What is the worst part of your job?

Grades. Ug.

Question 8: What do you hope to achieve by being a teacher?

Setting kids on a journey of eternal learning. How cool is it that God has offered us an infinite amount of discovery, play, and growth?

Question 9: Do you have any heroes?

That teacher I mentioned earlier. My wife. My mom. Andre from Andre’s Kitchen in Walla Walla.

Question 10: What’s something special about the grade level that you teach?

Children’s unfettered sense of wonder at each thing they discover.

Bonus Question: If Mrs. Bryant randomly cancelled school for the day, what would you do on that day?

(I keep coming back to this) BOARD GAMES! Is this a thing? Should I stock up on some new games?
