Curriculum

Continuity and Freedom:  Our curriculum is well-designed to provide continuity from grade to grade while allowing teachers freedom to use their professional skills and common sense.  In this way, each teacher designs learning experiences to fit the interests and abilities of their students.

National-level Design:  Rogers bases its curriculum on the North American Curriculum Guides developed over decades by skilled teachers across North America.  Additionally, since Rogers is part of a worldwide sisterhood of schools, we have the advantage of national-level curriculum committees that search for the most fitting textbooks on the market.  The curriuculum committees create their own materials if suitable books cannot be found.

Excellence in Learning:  Rogers teachers are always looking for ways to "do it better."  Armed with a good curriculum and professional freedom, they employ methods to help each child succeed.  Some methods are "the latest"; some are time-tested.  The resulting mix helps our students learn.  It also serves as a good model for Walla Walla College students of education who will soon become teachers.

Teaching of Doctrine:  A frequently asked question is: "How doctinal is your Bible class?"  In early grades, the Bible classes focus mainly on the stories of the Bible and the life of Christ.  In the higher grades Adventist doctrine is presented and discussed.  Families of other faiths find our teachers to be understanding of varying points of view.

Discussion Is Good:  When a doctrinal point is presented in class, the teacher makes a convincing presentation.  At home families are free to discuss their reasons for believing differently.  The classroom and the family are both benefitted by the discussion of varying viewpoints.

All for Liberty:  Adventists have a tradition of defending religious liberty.  We have filed "friend of the court" briefs to support others who were fighting for their rights to teach their own children or practice their religion according to their own consciences.  Our church sends monthly materials to legislators around the country encouraging them to protect the freedoms of all conscientious people; not just the special-interest groups.
